INGREDIENTS:

TURKEY – the star of the show on Thanksgiving day and in this casserole.

TURKEY GRAVY – gravy helps to keep the turkey moist.

MASHED POTATOES – because mashed potatoes are simply the best.

SOUR CREAM – leftover mashed potatoes tend to be a little dry so adding sour cream to them gives moisture and an extra creamy texture.

CORN – corn adds a little sweetness and texture.

STUFFING – it wouldn’t be a Thanksgiving casserole without stuffing.

CHEDDAR CHEESE – top things off with some cheese because why not?

HOW TO MAKE THIS DELICIOUS CASSEROLE:

Time needed: 1 hour and 15 minutes

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

  2. Place turkey in the bottom of an 8×8 or 1½ quart baking dish.

  3. Top the turkey with gravy.

  4. Mix the mashed potatoes with the sour cream and spread over the turkey and gravy.

  5. Top with corn and then the stuffing.

  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.

  7. Remove foil and sprinkle with cheese. Return to oven for 5 minutes or just until cheese is melted.

TIPS AND VARIATIONS:

  • If you like cranberries you could replace the gravy with cranberry sauce or top your casserole off with some!
  • Turkey is not a requirement! You could also make this casserole with chicken or ham.
  • Substitute the cheddar cheese with gouda, monterey jack, or colby!
  • You could use green beans or green bean casserole instead of corn!

Ingredients

  • cups (175g) chopped turkey
  • ½ cup (130g) turkey gravy; divided
  • 2 cups (500g) mashed potatoes
  • ¼ cup (60g) sour cream
  • 1 cup (170g) corn, creamed corn, OR green bean casserole
  • 2 cups (340g) stuffing
  • ¾ cup (85g) shredded cheddar or other favorite cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Place turkey in bottom of an 8×8 or 1½ quart baking dish. Top with gravy. Mix potatoes and sour cream together and spread over meat and gravy. Top with vegetable of choice. Top with stuffing. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and sprinkle with cheese. Return to oven for 5 minutes or just until cheese is melted.

Notes

  1. If your potatoes are really dry add more sour cream. Can also add ¼ teaspoon garlic powder. 
  2. If your stuffing is really dry add a little broth to it before adding to the casserole. 
  3. Can replace the gravy with cranberry sauce if desired. 
  4. Can replace the turkey with chicken or ham.
