Growing up, I loved root beer floats! There was something special about combining sweet root beer with creamy vanilla ice cream; that in my younger years (ok, as an adult too!) made this one pretty amazing dessert drink.

And my love of floats inspired me to create this simple 3-ingredient strawberry float. Made with sweet summertime strawberries, crisp lemon-lime soda, and finished off with a scoop – or two – of thick, creamy strawberry ice cream, this strawberry ice cream float is a fun and refreshing treat that is enjoyed by both kids and adults alike!

STRAWBERRIES: While fresh is best, if enjoying this recipe in the winter months, feel free to use your favorite brand of frozen strawberries.

7-UP: 7-Up is my preferred brand of the classic lemon-lime soda, but you can also use Sprite, club soda, or even make your own using a soda maker.

STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM: I love using my simple No Churn Strawberry Ice Cream, store bought strawberry, or even vanilla will work perfectly in this recipe.

How To Make Strawberry Floats

It could not be simpler to make strawberry floats!

BLEND INGREDIENTS: Simply place the strawberries and 1/2 cup of 7-up in a blender and blend until smooth.

SERVE: Divide the strawberry puree between two glasses. Then fill each glass 3/4 full with 7-up and finish with a generous scoop of strawberry ice cream. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips And Tricks

  • Garnish with sliced strawberries, whipped cream, or even sprinkles!
  • If the strawberries you have on hand are not overly sweet, feel free to add in a tablespoon of sugar to help enhance the sweetness.
  • For a thicker drink, use frozen strawberries.

If you need to make for a large party or crowd, turn into a punch! Transforming from floats to a punch could not be easier. Simply add 4 cups of fresh strawberry puree, a ½ gallon of strawberry ice cream, and 2 liters of 7-Up to a large punch bowl. Give a quick stir and top with frozen sliced strawberries to keep the punch cool and let partygoers know what’s inside.

Can this be made alcoholic?

Sure can! Adding strawberry wine turns this isn’t a boozy strawberry ice cream beverage for the adults!

Simply add 5-ounces of your favorite strawberry wine to the top of the strawberry puree. Then fill the glass 3/4 full with 7-up and top with a scoop of strawberry ice cream and enjoy!
