6ounces (170g)semi-sweet or dark chocolate, roughly chopped
1cup (80g)cocoa powder, any kind is fine
½teaspoonvanilla extract
pinch of salt
Instructions
Hot Cocoa Mix:
Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until powdery. Store in an airtight container.
To Use:
Heat one cup of milk in a saucepan until it starts to simmer. Add in ¼ - ⅓ cup of hot cocoa mix and whisk until well combined.
Pour into a mug and top with any desired toppings.
To Make Mason Jar Gift:
Spoon hot cocoa mix into a 1-quart mason jar (I like to use a funnel to help keep things cleaner). Gently tap jar on the counter to help layers settle. Add a layer of mini marshmallows and chocolate chips. Seal with lid and attach the recipe card.
Notes
This makes about 3 1/4 cups of hot cocoa mix.
Feel free to use semi-sweet or milk chocolate in place of the dark chocolate if you prefer.
Use a high-quality chocolate and cocoa powder for this recipe for best results. Brands such as Lindt and Ghirardelli for solid chocolate and Hershey's will work great for the cocoa powder.
I added mini marshmallow and chocolate chips to this mason jar gift but feel free to add different items such as crushed peppermints, toffee bits, different flavored marshmallows, or even different flavored chocolate chips.
This will keep at room temperature for up to 3 months.
