This tasty Sausage and Apple recipe is a quick one-pot meal. This dish is a delicious blend of sweet and savory, absolutely perfect for the upcoming cool fall nights! Serve it as breakfast alongside some eggs, for dinner with rice, or just chow down on this high-protein dish as-is!
Why You’ll Love This Sausage and Apple Recipe
Like many of you, fall always inspires me to make simple and comforting recipes. One of the meals that really sticks out to me from my childhood is my grandma’s Sausages and Apples. Thankfully one of the times she came out to stay with us she gave me a little tutorial. New family favorite unlocked!
It’s so easy to make and it comes together quickly. It only calls for 5 ingredients, not including the water, and you can create so many different meals out of it depending on what you pair it with. My grandma used breakfast sausage and paired it with scrambled eggs and toast, but I used brats and served it up with crusty bread and some greens.
You might think this is an odd combination, but I absolutely adore the savory and sweet flavors of this dish. I honestly think these two ingredients were made to be together, as evidenced by my favorite apple sausage stuffing!
Go ahead and give it a try! I hope you love this wonderfully rustic and tasty fall supper!

How to Make Sausage with Apples
Step 1: Brown Sausages
In a large skillet, cook the sausages over medium-low heat until they’re browned about, for about 15 minutes. Remove them from the skillet.
Step 2: Add Apples
Add apples, onions, and water to the skillet and sprinkle them with salt and pepper. Nestle the sausages on top of the apples and onions, and then drizzle them with balsamic vinegar. Cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until sausages are fully cooked.
FAQs
It’s really up to you! I tend to prefer pan frying because I can control the flavors as I cook, but baking is great for throwing it in the oven and forgetting it while you prepare other things.
Apples and sausage are perfect together because of the iconic salty/sweet combo! The savory juiciness of the sausage pairs perfectly with the sweet goodness of crisp apples.
You can save your sausages in an airtight container stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. However, I would suggest enjoying the apples immediately.

Oh, this looks so good – and we just went on a MAJOR apple picking adventure so I am looking for ways to use up all those local apples!
Thank you Kate! I hope you like it!
You made me hungry for this, too. Must made it one of these days. I have bulk pork sausage in the freezer so probably will just brown the patties and make it that way. I love reading to the kids, only wish I could figure out a way to get each one of them sitting nest to me so they don’t feel like they are not close enough. Will have to keep working on that.
Lol! I think we need a bigger couch! Love you!
