Grilled Peaches and Ice Cream

These grilled peaches are the perfect low-key, quick dessert. Especially if you already have the grill fired up to cook dinner. Peaches on the grill is a unique (and simple!) dessert idea that’s both kid and adult-friendly.

Just prep some peaches and pop them on the grill while you are enjoying dinner and you’ll have dessert ready and waiting! Grilled peaches and ice cream make for the perfect after-dinner treat. I just love fruit desserts, especially when served with ice cream!

Some of our other favorite desserts we enjoy through the summer are No Churn Peach Ice Cream (which would be great on these peaches!), Fresh Strawberry Pie, and No Bake Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake.

Key Ingredients to Make Peaches on the Grill

You only need a handful of ingredients to make peaches on the grill! Be sure to head to the recipe card below for exact quantities.

  • PEACHES – You’ll need 2 large peaches to make 4 servings. I’ll share my tips on how to pick the best peaches a little later.
  • BROWN SUGAR – The sweetness in this grilled dessert is mostly thanks to the addition of brown sugar!
  • CINNAMON – This key ingredient also lends much in terms of flavor to this dish. Cinnamon marries so well with the fruit and other seasonings.
  • NUTMEG – The same goes for nutmeg! I love its warm and earthy taste.
  • BUTTER – To help the grilling process and add more yummy flavor to the final results.

How to Grill Peaches

RECIPE PREP: Preheat your grill to medium, or about 375 degrees F. Lightly oil the grate so your peaches don’t stick.

Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to a small bowl and mix. Set it aside for later!

PREP THE PEACHES: If you haven’t already, cut the peaches in half, remove the pit, and brush them with a little melted butter (or oil).

PLACE THE PEACHES ON THE GRILL: Position the peaches cut side down on the preheated grill and grill for about 3 minutes, or until you see grill marks appear. Rotate the peaches 90 degrees and grill for another 3 minutes.

THE FINAL TOUCHES: Flip the grilled peaches and top each one with a dollop of butter, then sprinkle on the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Grill for another 3 minutes, then remove from the grill. Serve as desired (I recommend grilled peaches and ice cream of course!) and enjoy.

Pro Tips:

  • Be sure to fully preheat your grill.
  • Clean and oil your grates after it has preheated. This helps to combat sticking.
  • Don’t disturb the peaches for the full 3 minutes to achieve grill marks.
  • Store leftover peaches in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Tips for Picking the Best Fruit for Grilling Peaches

You want ripe peaches, but not overly ripe as they will be too mushy for grilling.

  • Choose peaches that are vibrant in color and have no signs of green.
  • They should smell sweet. If there is no smell present the peaches will be lacking in flavor.
  • Peaches should give slightly when you gently squeeze them. If they are hard, they aren’t ripe yet. If they’re really soft, they’re overripe and will not work in this recipe.

If the store only has rock-hard peaches available, no worries. Peaches will continue to ripen at home. Place them on the counter on their “shoulders” (not their bottoms) out of direct sunlight. To slow the ripening process you can store them in the refrigerator.

FAQ

How to grill peaches in a frying pan

If you want to try out this recipe but you don’t have a grill, the good news is that you can absolutely use a frying pan in a crunch! You’ll even get those gorgeous grate marks if you use a grill pan. Simply set the heat to medium, then follow the direction above!

Should peaches be ripe before grilling?

Yes, but remember that you don’t want them to be too ripe! Opt for fruit that is slightly soft to the touch but not mushy. If you use overly peaches for grilling peaches, you’ll end up with a soggy mess!

Should you peel peaches before grilling?

I typically don’t. The hot temperatures from the grill will break down the sugars in the skin and you’ll be left with some seriously yummy caramelized peaches as a result. That said, if you want to peel your peaches before grilling, you can.

Does grilling peaches make them sweeter?

It sure does! Combined with the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture, you couldn’t ask for a sweeter dessert. That’s why I like serving peaches and ice cream. Yes, ice cream is sweet on its own but the creaminess pairs perfectly with the grilled fruit!
