Bangers and Mash

Why You’ll Love This Bangers and Mash Recipe

I’ve been on a British kick, and recently I made the best fish and chips you could imagine, so it was only natural for me to move on to bangers and mash! While it’s a little bit of a funny name, the dish itself is very simple! It’s sausage – bangers – and mashed potatoes – mash.

While my version is not completely authentic, this recipe turned out so well! This dish is so easy to make, it’s relatively cheap, and it’ll fill you up when you’re craving a cozy comfort meal. I couldn’t get Cumberland sausages, so I used regular bratwursts and, to be completely honest, this is my new favorite way of cooking brats! No more grilling for me!

I’ve made sure to take you step by step through the ingredients and the recipe, but once you get the basic gist you can switch things up however you’d like. Choose your favorite sausage (maybe even a veggie-based one), make a different kind of mashed potatoes (I’ve shared some ideas!), or make your own version of gravy! However you make it, you’re going to love it!

How to Make My Bangers and Mash Recipe

Step 1: Preheat

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2: Make Mashed Potatoes

Put your potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Boil until they’re soft and then drain the water out. Heat butter and milk together, and pour them into the pot with the potatoes. Mash them with a potato masher and add salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3: Make Sausage and Gravy

Start by heating a large frying pan over medium to low heat with olive oil. Add the sausages and fry until they’re golden in color, and then remove them and set them aside.

Add the onions to the sausage juices and cook until they’re softened and golden. Then, add the flour, brown sugar, and vinegar, and cook until everything is light brown in color. Slowly whisk in the beef stock, and then add the sausages back into the gravy and bake them for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Serve

Plate two sausages on top of the mashed potatoes and then top them with a generous portion of the onion gravy. Enjoy!
