These Roasted Sweet Potato Slices with cinnamon glaze are the perfect side dish for those who want something a little special! Tender, healthy, and lightly sweet with a touch of honey, sweet potato with cinnamon is a wonderful option for so many different main dishes!
Roasted Sweet Potato Slices
Guys, I have another amazing sweet potato recipe. And this time, we’re making cinnamon sweet potatoes!
These roasted sweet potato slices with cinnamon glaze are the perfect side dish. They are healthy and lightly sweetened thanks to the honey in the glaze. Gotta love nature’s sweetener!
We have been eating these with so many different main dishes. Bacon Wrapped Pork Loin, Chicken in Garlic Mushroom Cream Sauce, or this Mushroom and Blue Cheese Stuffed Flank Steak have all been super tasty!
I like to cut the potatoes into round slices, though you could also cut them thinner or even in the shape of fries. The natural sweetness in the potatoes paired with the added honey and cinnamon make these perfect for so many different kinds of protein. Plus, my kids go crazy for them!
What’s better than finding a vegetable recipe that the whole family can get behind? Not much if you ask me!
Why You’ll Love These Cinnamon Sweet Potatoes
- Sweet and tender
- Ideal as a side dish for dinner
- Prepped and ready in under 1 hour
- Roasted in one pan for easy clean-up
- Kid-approved!
Key Ingredients for Roasting Sweet Potatoes (Sliced)
- SWEET POTATOES – I’m using about 2.5 pounds of sweet potatoes. You could probably get away with using any type of spud for this recipe, but I must say the sweetness of the cinnamon glaze is really perfect for roasted sweet potato slices.
- BUTTER – Yes, these potatoes use butter. Please don’t be afraid of it as they seriously don’t taste as good when roasted with oil. Trust me, I’ve tried.
- SALT – You only need a bit for roasting.
- HONEY – For the cinnamon glaze. I love my local honey but you can feel free to use your favorite brand!
- CINNAMON – It wouldn’t be a cinnamon sweet potato recipe without it! I love the warm and spicy flavor this seasoning adds to this dish.
- ORANGE JUICE – Also for the glaze. Which, by the way, is purely optional. Roasted honey sweet potatoes are very good on their own, but I have to say the cinnamon sweet potato glaze adds an extra special touch.
Instructions to Make My Sweet Potato with Cinnamon Recipe
RECIPE PREP: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F while you peel and slice the sweet potatoes into 1-inch thick rounds.
PREP THE POTATOES: Place the sweet potato rounds on a baking sheet, drizzle with melted butter, and sprinkle with a bit of salt. Toss to coat evenly and make sure to leave enough room in between each round before roasting.
ROAST: Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast for 20 minutes. Flip each round with tongs and roast for 20 more minutes.
MAKE THE CINNAMON GLAZE: While the sweet potatoes cook, simmer the honey, orange juice, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over medium for 2-3 minutes, or until warmed through.
ASSEMBLE THE CINNAMON SWEET POTATOES: Remove the potatoes from the oven and serve immediately with the cinnamon glaze. Enjoy!
FAQ
You have to make sure to leave enough room in between each potato on the baking sheet. This gives the hot air room to circulate, which will cause the potatoes to crisp up really nicely! You’ll also need to make sure to flip them halfway through the cooking time so that they cook through on all sides.
It all depends on preference. I tend to prefer roasting sweet potatoes when sliced as they crisp up and almost caramelize thanks to the butter. That said, boiled sweet potatoes are also tasty. Plus, boiling helps retain the antioxidants found in this vegetable if healthy eating is a big concern. Again, it really just depends on what you like!
If your cinnamon sweet potatoes came out dry, you likely didn’t use enough butter. That’s why it’s so important to follow the quantities on the recipe card below! You’ll need 4 tablespoons — and as mentioned, don’t replace it with oil!
Cinnamon Sweet Potato Recipe Tips
- Be careful to slice the sweet potatoes uniformly. Make sure that each round is about 1 inch thick — this helps them cook evenly.
- Use your hands to coat the roasted sweet potato slices with butter and salt so that every piece is well seasoned. Don’t be afraid to get messy here!
- Before roasting sweet potatoes when sliced, make sure there is enough room in between them on the baking sheet. Remember, this allows for proper air circulation and helps them cook evenly without steaming.
- Consider warming the glaze just before serving. Gently heat the cinnamon glaze on the stovetop until it’s warmed through. This helps to thin it slightly and makes it easier to drizzle over the spuds to create your cinnamon sweet potatoes.
