Pizza Beans

Pizza Beans is a delicious and affordable dish filled with flavor! The savory Italian sausage adds so much flavor, while white beans are cooked in rich marinara sauce, all topped with gooey, melted cheese for an incredibly satisfying meal.

I’m always looking for budget-friendly meals that my family loves, and my popular Homemade Hamburger Helper frequently graces our table! We also enjoy Impossible Cheeseburger Pie, Runza Casserole, and Tuna Patties, all of which my family adores!

Before You Get Started

BEANS: There are options here, and I use whatever I have on hand. I have used black beans, great northern, and pinto beans because they are always in my pantry. However, this would also work with butter beans, chickpeas, or really any bean you like to eat!

SAUSAGE: I like to use Italian sausage because it adds so much flavor to the dish. You can leave it out for a vegetarian friendly meal. If you choose to do this, taste your beans after simmering to see what adjustments need to be made to add more flavor.

VEGETABLES: Feel free to add in more vegetables to this dish while the beans simmer. Spinach, kale, bell pepper, shredded zucchini, green beans, or even broccoli (cut into small pieces).

TOPPINGS: Feel free to add toppings like sliced olives or pepperoni just before broiling.

Ingredients: sausage, onion, garlic, pasta sauce, beans, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.

How To Make Pizza Beans

This really is a simple meal to make and will be on your table in under 30 minutes!!

Step 1: Brown the Meat

Brown the sausage in a large skillet along with the onion. After the meat is cooked through and the onions are soft, stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Step 2: Add the Beans

Stir in your drained and rinsed beans of choice along with the pasta sauce and seasoning. Simmer for 5 minutes to heat everything through.

⇢ If you want to add more veggies, now would be the time to do that. I actually like to add in the spinach at the last minute, just before topping with the cheese.

Step 3: Cheese!!

Sprinkle the beans with cheese and broil for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Make-Ahead and Storage Tips:

STORAGE: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

REHEAT: Reheat leftovers in single-serve portions in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or until heated through. For larger portions, reheat in a 325*F oven, covered, for 20 minutes or until heated through. The beans may be thicker than when they were first made.

MAKE-AHEAD: Assemble the entire dish up to 1 day in advance. If using a glass baking dish, remove at least 30 minutes before baking. Bake in a 350*F oven for 20 minutes or until hot, bubbly, and the cheese is melted. Broil if desired.

Serving Suggestions:

I love serving this with a simple side salad with any homemade dressing, such as Buttermilk Ranch, Caesar, or Creamy Poppyseed. Add in some crusty garlic bread to help scoop up the delicious beans, and you have a hearty, budget-friendly meal to suit all ages.
