Why You’ll Love Donut and Fruit Kabobs

This dessert kabob is going to be your new go-to! Whether you’re going to a BBQ, bridal shower, potluck, or birthday party, this dessert is a crowd favorite! I’ve even made red, white, and blue kabobs for the Fourth of July because I love a theme and everyone loves a kabob.

All you need are donut holes and your favorite fruit, then alternate skewering them until you have a bunch of kabobs to snack on. You can either wrap them up in parchment and tie them with a little bit of twine to transport, or lay them out on a pan and cover them with plastic wrap. I also love the idea of bringing all of the ingredients and letting people make their own skewers like a DIY kabob bar!

Also, the fruit cancels out the donut, right? So that makes them a healthy breakfast. (I won’t tell if you won’t!)

Ingredients for Donut Hole and Fruit Skewers

The ingredient list for these yummy dessert skewers is both very small and expansive at the same time. All you need are donut holes, your choice of fruit, and some wooden skewers. However, you can also drizzle melted chocolate or Nutella over your skewers, or even skewer different things depending on your mood. This recipe is as simple as you want it to be – but let’s start with the fruit!

What is the best fruit for fruit kabobs?

  • Kiwi
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Melon
  • Blackberries
  • Pineapple
  • Tangerine wedges
  • banana
  • grapes

How to Make Dessert Kabobs

Step 1: Skewer

Insert a wooden skewer into a donut hole and slide it to the end of the skewers. Then insert the skewer into a piece of fruit and drag it down towards the donut hole. Continue alternating with donut holes and fruit in your preferred pattern.

Step 2: Drizzle

Lay the skewers on a platter and drizzle melted chocolate or Nutella over them, if desired. Enjoy!

FAQs

What other things can I put on fruit kabobs?

One of my favorite things about these fruit kabobs is that you can customize them to the holiday, the time of year, and even your kids’ preferences. It’s fun to use gummy worms around halloween, skewer chocolate-covered marshmallows in the winter and enjoy them alongside a hot chocolate, or add chunks of rice krispie treats for extra crunch and flavor. Let me know what variations you try!

Can you make fruit kabobs the night before?

My recommendation is to slice all of the fruit the day before. That way everything is prepped and ready to skewer the day you’re going to serve them. I wouldn’t skewer the donuts and fruit the day before because the donuts will absorb some of the fruit’s moisture, and you don’t really want to refrigerate the donut holes, do you? Thankfully this recipe is really easy to throw together once the fruit is washed and sliced. You can when it comes to the fruit.

How do I store leftover donut and fruit kabobs?

These skewers are meant to be enjoyed the day they were made because the moisture in the fruit will leech into the donut holes if left too long. However, you can keep the donut holes and fruit stored separately.

Donut holes can be stored in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for up to 2 days – beyond that they’ll get stale. The fruit can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for about 3 days. Skewer your ingredients when you’re ready to enjoy.
