Tips For The Perfect Ham:

  • I highly suggest buying a bone-in pre-cooked ham. Bone-in hams have more flavor than boneless hams and pre-cooked hams will make life easier!
  • I also prefer not to buy a spiral sliced ham because it tends to dry out more easily. It’s better to score the fat cap to let the glaze down to the meat. Yes, it is convenient to have the slicing already done, but I prefer nice juicy slices of meat. And it’s not that hard to slice it yourself.
  • If your ham starts to brown too much, cover it with foil.
Ingredients: ham, brown sugar, pineapple, honey, cherries, dijon, soy sauce, garlic powder, cinnamon, cumin, and clove.

How To Make Pineapple Glazed Ham:

This ham may look intimidating, but it is quite simple to prepare! Below is a simple overview of how to make it, but you can find detailed instructions in the recipe card.

Start by preparing the glaze. Combine it in a small saucepan and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes to dissolve the sugar and start to thicken.

While the sauce simmers, you may score the ham if you desire. To do this, cut the ham in a diamond pattern, being careful not to cut too deep into the meat. I usually score through the fat cap and no more than 1/4 inch into the meat.

Spoon or brush some of the glaze over the ham, then add the pineapple rings and cherries. I use toothpicks to help secure everything in place. You will want to save some glaze to baste the ham with.

I like to baste during the cooking process because it adds more flavor and builds a nice, sticky sweet glaze. It’s totally optional but so worth it!

How Long To Bake A Ham?

For a pre-cooked bone-in ham, you just need to reheat, and this will take around 15 minutes per pound when baked at 325*F. Since it is easy to overcook ham, I suggest checking with a meat thermometer when getting towards the end of bake time. The internal temperature should be around 115*F-120*F.

How Much Ham Do You Need?

I like to plan for 3/4 of a pound per person. That way, you will have plenty for your guests with some leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 (10 pound) fully cooked bone-in ham
  • 1 (20 ounce) (567g) can pineapple rings
  • ¾ cup (355g) packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup (120ml) pineapple juice; drained and reserve juice
  • ¼ cup (60m) honey
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon ground clove
  • 10 maraschino cherries, drained

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325℉.
  • In a small saucepan, add pineapple juice, brown sugar, honey, Dijon, soy sauce, garlic powder, cinnamon, cumin, and clove. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer. Simmer, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  • Line a roasting pan with foil or parchment paper (for easier clean-up). Place the ham in the pan. Score if desired.
  • Brush half of the glaze all over the ham. Pin the pineapple rings around the ham using toothpicks to secure. Pin cherries with a toothpick in the center of the pineapple rings.
  • Bake for 1-2 hours or until a meat thermometer reads 115℉-120℉, basting every 30 minutes. After removing from the oven baste one last time with the juices from the pan. Let stand 15-20 minutes before carving.

  1. Be sure to remove the ham at least 2 hours before baking to allow to come to room temperature or you will need to increase the cook time.
